Car Pile Up! And Other Stuff.....

1/27/2019

I'm not a huge fan of this time of year in Northwest Pennsylvania. It's ridiculously cold and we have tons of snow. For me it is tough because I love being outdoors. I love to be doing stuff outside, but the weather really limits what you can do. I will play around outside a little but now the snow is way to deep to even trek back in the woods. I'm ready for Spring!

Today, I had to make a trip to the city. I probably shouldn't of been out. It was white out conditions. I traveled on the Interstate and on my way back there was a huge car pile up in the west bound lane. I had just taken that route 30 minutes earlier. It was scary looking. I was able to catch a bunch of footage from it on my cell phone. Check out the video below. Makes you realize how quickly bad weather can become very dangerous. From what I heard, there were only minor injuries.

In other news around the Homestead, we are in the 11th week of pregnancy! We are getting more and more excited about this beautiful baby that the Lord has blessed us with. The Bible says in Psalm 139:13-16:

"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."

What a wonderful passage of Scripture! God knew us before we were even conceived in the womb. And He knitted each one of us together in our mother's womb. I will praise His mighty name! And to think....the Lord is "knitting" our newest blessing right now!

Please continue to pray for Janel as she has been more sick with this pregnancy than with any of the others. She is such a great mother. I am beyond blessed to have her and thank the Lord for bringing her to me. I didn't deserve her!

I still have a bunch of decisions to make in the near future. I'm weighing out a ton of stuff. I'm in one of those "what do I do Lord" times in my life. We had been planning to make a move and purchase a large piece of property in Kentucky, but then we were surprised by the pregnancy. I then applied for a position in the company that I currently work for, but I didn't get the promotion. That would of entailed us moving as well. So it seems that the doors keep closing when it comes to us moving.

It is still very appealing to me to purchase a larger piece of property to Homestead, but with the pregnancy, Janel wants to stay put until after the baby is born. So for now, our moving plans are on hold. Sometimes our plans are not the Lords plans, and I am perfectly fine with that! We love this property and could spend the rest of our days here with no issues at all.

Please continue to pray for us as we get ready for the next addition to the Homestead. We are excited! Also pray for future plans. We appreciate you all so much! Take care and God bless!  -Steve

Pray! (A Cook Family Homestead Blog)

We're almost through January already! Wow does time fly! We just got through a snow storm and some bitter cold temps. I can't complain this winter because it has been relatively mild. Both in temperatures and snow fall. Last year we got hammered!

We have a lot of changes happening at the Homestead and would appreciate your prayers! The Bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV):

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Isn't it great that we can come before the Throne of the Creator of the Universe? It is almost hard to comprehend. The God of the universe hears our prayers! Let's pray for one another! We would be happy to pray for you. Leave a comment below or send us an email on our contact page. We count it a privilege to pray for others!

As you may have seen on our previous blog post, we are expecting! We are so excited. But we are nervous as well. We have had two miscarriages in the past, so that is always on our minds whenever we are having another baby. Please pray for Janel, specifically for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

I am also in the beginning stages of some very important career decisions. I've been praying about things, but there are some things that I am waiting to happen. God is in control and I'm perfectly fine with whatever happens. He has always taken care of us and I rest in His sovereign will. I would appreciate your prayers in this decision making process as well.

Finally, we will be starting a video series through this pregnancy about expecting in your 40's. We haven't officially titled the series, but you will be able to follow along with us through this wonderful time in our lives. It will be on our YouTube channel which you can check out here. Janel and I will also be blogging about it on a regular basis. We have a wonderful midwife and we will also be having a home birth. You will be able to follow along with us! And please pray!

Thanks again and until next time....God Bless!   -Steve

Lots of exciting things happening at the Homestead! God is good! If you haven't heard the news, we are expecting again! We found out last December that we are having another baby. (See our baby announcement video here) We also have a couple more announcements coming up, and some video projects that we will be working on, including a series on being pregnant in your 40's! We will be putting out the first video in that series this week.

Today I did some projects around the Homestead (see video below) and played around in the snow. We have a major storm hitting us right now. Bitter cold with high winds and lots of snow. I'm thankful for a nice warm house and lots of food! God has given us so much and we praise His name!

Check out the video below and thanks for checking in! God bless.   -Steve

Happy New Year From The Homestead!

1/1/2019

Another year has come and gone! Boy does it go by fast. 2018 was another wonderful year at the Homestead! We got a ton of projects done and had a fun year together as a family. What a true blessing it is to be able to enjoy this life together with my beautiful family that the Lord has given me!

So what's coming in 2019? We have a ton of surprises coming from the Homestead. We will be vlogging about them on our YouTube channel as well as putting together blogs/vlogs here on our website. We are so excited at what the Lord is doing in our lives and can't wait to share it with you all. God has been so gracious to us and we praise His wonderful name!

With our lives being so full we have had little time to work on our YouTube channel or our website over the past month. I have a bunch of videos planned and will be loading some content on this coming weekend. Looking forward to sharing some projects, reviews and major life changes that will be happening here at the Homestead. We have been overwhelmed by the support and awesome emails, comments and messages we receive! We appreciate all of you who have joined us on this journey towards a more simpler and self sustaining style of life. We aren't even close to where we want to be, but we have so enjoyed the journey so far!

Thanks for following along and check out my wife's latest Instant Pot video below. Thanks for watching and God bless!  -Steve

Ephesians 3:20-21

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
